My affiliate marketing interests

There’s something about my blog that I want to be totally honest with you about.

Every now and then, I’ll have a link to a business that pays me for sending you their way.

Sometimes I get paid only if you buy something from them.

Other times, I get paid if you just click on the link. It depends.

It’s kinda like this:

You see, I have my absolute favourite restaurants that I would eat at all day long (that’s if I didn’t have nutrition and a balanced diet and stuff like that to think about).

There’s my local fish ‘n chip shop (best one in Oz!), there’s a cool Chinese place that I go to ALL the time, and I have THE BEST Malaysian restaurant just around the corner from my house.

Let’s say I know you’re looking for a great restaurant.

And I tell you, “I know a place you should DEFINITELY check out! It’s called Ying’s Place (fictitious name). When you get there, ask for Ying and tell her that I sent you.”

Imagine that Ying thanks me by paying me a fee.

You’re happy because you’ve discovered a great new place to eat. Ying’s happy because she’s got more word-of-mouth business. And I’m happy because I helped out two friends in the process. And yes, the money’s also a nice bonus.  :)

The truth is, I wouldn’t send you Ying’s way just for the money. I recommend her because I love Ying’s restaurant myself, and I think you’ll love it too.

Now, let’s say, that I’m promoting Ying on my blog by having links to her business. On the internet, this is called affiliate marketing.

If it didn’t already occur to you, no one actually pays me to write this blog.

I have to find my own passion and time and effort to put this information together. Yes, the blog helps me in other ways. But essentially, affiliate marketing is how I try to earn an income from this gig.

Just to let you know though – I won’t always get paid to make a recommendation. But where I do, I promise to be upfront about my affiliate marketing interests.

Alright, with that aside, let’s get back to the fun part – blogging!
